I think I want something different to work on, so I'm putting my original condition 1972 Beetle up for trade. I bought this car from the second owner (who had owned it since 1973). It is a California car, and I have receipts to document this going all the way back to when it was a month old. I also have the previous owner's log book of every fill up from 1973 until well into the 2000's. The only rust anywhere on the car is surface rust on areas where the paint had either worn of, or was scratched by rocks hitting it in the front. It is 100% original paint and has never been repainted.
The body has well over 150,000 miles on it (and I can document this), but the engine in the car now, is a recently rebuilt 1600 single port, built on a 1969 block. I do have the original, numbers matching motor, that needs a top end rebuild, that I will include with the car, along with a box of other parts.
It runs and drives very well, all signals, lights, etc work well. The tires are basically new, and have great tread on them. I put a set of Karmann Ghia disc brakes on the front so it stops great and you don't have to worry about problems with the old drum brakes. In dry weather, I drive this car daily to and from work (40 mile round trip), and it has not given me any problems whatsoever.
The only thing I'd say the car needs is an interior revamp, as it's pretty sunbaked, especially the panel under the back window. It has good seats, but they need recovered, eventually. It has the original carpet and floor mats, as well as the original Sapphire AM radio, that still works well.
I have many more pictures, that I can email to anyone. I'd also be glad to help with transporting the car in and around the Huntsville area.
I'm particularly interested in trading for or putting this car up as part of a car/cash deal for a nice old Mustang or other pre-1973 classic car, or even a nice old 2-stroke motorcycle. I'd also be interested in another VW, but only something 1967 or earlier.
That being said, if I were to sell it, I'd be looking to get around $3000.
I do not need any help selling the car nor will I deal with people 1000 miles away.
If this ad is up the car is still available.
Please call or text and I'd be glad to discuss the car and any possible trades.
